File under "Pixel Art Is Hard"
These represent, from left to right chronologically, 100% of the pixel art I've ever done. And I'M LOVING IT.
I'll have more to say about this, but this is more or less what I'm going to be posting here for the next forever or so.

10-29-12 The Second
Worked on Ringil some more:
Referenced the text this time around, re-remembered that he's a southpaw and that the scar runs along the jaw.

Finished Octavia Guerrero, head of the Free People's Union:
Also did a quick sketch of Ringil Eskiath, from Richard K. Morgan's noir-fantasy novel The Cold Commands :
Looking at it now, he's not nearly grizzled enough and he's also missing a facial scar or two, but considering I banged this out in less than an hour, I'm pretty pleased overall with the results.

So close with Octavia I can taste it:
I realized that she needed the same eye as Kezar and wanted the big arm to look like a bulky piece of construction equipment.

Spent a lazy Sunday scratching away at Octavia:
I redid the vest, which I felt was looking too patchwork, more Nightmare Before Christmas than cobbled together military surplus. I've been tweaking the arms, shortening here and bulking up there. I have been pointedly avoiding the legs and the big huge anti-materiel rifle, which will be challenging, to say the least.

Remember when I said that Kezar was done? HAHAHAHA:
I realized that if his legs are supposed to be more than fifteen years old, they'd be pretty grimy.
Here's a new version of Valencia, who has been renamed Octavia Guerrero:

I know they say that art is never really done, but Kezar Stanyon is done:
Next up is another character from the same story, who is going by Valencia Van Ness for now.

Got the front view pretty well nailed down:
The muscular system of the human back is FIENDISHLY complicated.

Did a bit more on Kezar's abdominal. I really want the design to show that his abs are the result of extensive polymer reconstruction, and not time in the gym.
Remembered to turn on the censor bar too.

did some more work on Kezar. I forgot to turn on the censor bar, so it's NSFW:
Also posting an updated Takeshi Kovacs:
Gotta nail down the Inuit patterning on the jacket. Also might another swing at the boots.

So, I started working on Kezar almost exactly a year ago. I haven't done much with it in a few months, but I finally got around to playing Deus Ex: Human Revolution and it's reinvigorated a hankering for some cyborgs:
I'm really excited about the direction the legs are taking, and also the implants in his chest and under the torso.

Making up for lost time, let's just jump right into it. Got some Muskets & Magic to start things off:
And bringing up the rear, I did a quick sketch of Sandman Slim, from Richard Kadrey's series of novels by the same name. Specifically, here's Stark how I pictured him towards the end of Aloha From Hell, after he's been kicked around pretty thoroughly:
I'm going to try a bit harder to post things a bit more often than once a month from here on out.

More Muskets & Magic:
Just working out the uniforms for the humans. I also realized the main issue I was having with the infantrymen: Severe lack of facial hair. So from here on out, look for plenty of muttonchops, mustaches and beards.

More Muskets & Magic:
The glyph overlaying the huge orc-troll dude with the cannon is meant to signify the gesture-based magic system I'm thinking of.

Random old drawings that I finally got around to scanning:
First one is a pair of disposable cyberpunk heavies, second one is some scribbles for an idea I had that mixed a WWII tech level with a world that was powered by hunting horrifying monsters with harpoons.

Just have to figure out the Inuit-inspired patterning on the jacket.

So, I decided that this isn't just some random dude, but is actually a depiction of Takeshi Kovacs in Elias Ryker's sleeve.
Even cooler lentils.

Giving the ol' Sunjet another go-round. I'm pretty excited about this direction.

Tried something a little different tonight:
No linework or greyscale, just started with chunks of color and then added darks and lights as I went. I think I'm going to pursue this technique more closely, as it also yields evocative results very quickly. I put less than an hour into Blady McShootyoass here.

Roland is complete.
I learn a lot doing this piece, and it took a lot more energy than I had anticipated to get Roland done.

Referenced the background from a screengrab of that Paul Thomas Anderson Scientology movie.

Roland, oh Roland.
I made everything a bit darker, added more blood, and tweaked the background some more. I have to figure out the foreground and foliage and stuff, then I can put this thing to bed.
