Finished off Kovac's arsenal in the first half of Altered Carbon:
The Tebbit knife was done a bit differently than the other, and I might utilize the method going forward: I made a quick line drawing in Illustrator to ensure smooth, symmetrical shapes, then imported it to Photoshop to use as a guide.
Here's the whole arsenal in one image:
Next up will be a Sunjet blaster pistol!

Been drawing this guy for damn near fifteen years:
I realized something the other day while playing Syndicate and reflecting on FPS's in general: It's hard to have the player character be anything other than a cypher. Whether you're Gordon Freeman, silent throughout, or Ramirez in MW2, saving the whole world by yourself, you tend to react to the situation at hand.
What better cypher for a FPS than the guy above, a nano-enhanced super soldier?

Lots of Altered Carbon:
Kovacs, looking more high-tech than some of my earlier iterations.
Some random blasters and knife and early Trepp idea:
And now some wholly original stuff: Mason and Valencia, contemporaries of Kezar.
Mason is the sellout corporate security chief, Valencia is the Che Guevara/Osama Bin Laden anti-corporate figure, and Kezar doesn't want to pick sides at all.

The first part of the twelve-part series that is The Month of Weapons is finished! I give you the Nemesis 10, Kovac's primary weapon in Altered Carbon:
I don't have the book in front of me, but I've read the thing so many times and am such a huge dork for techy-writing, that I remember the salient details pretty well. The Nemesis 10, or Nemex is a big-boy gun, holding 18 rounds in a double-stacked magazine and firing a big slug using a new propellant. Using the concept of a powerful propellant as a starting point, I began with the combustion chamber, located in between the trigger and the cartridge. I gave the barrel assembly lots of reenforcing to handle the powerful detonation of the round, and a muzzle brake up front to compensate for recoil. The only moving parts are located in the slide, which is sort of fudged but it's set 500 years in the future, so I'm okay with it.
Moving on to Kovacs' second weapon, the Phillips gun:
A slim, grey pistol half the size of the Nemex (making it roughly analogous to a modern compact or sub-compact), the Phillips gun uses a pair of magnetic rails to accelerate a steel dart to lethal velocities, and does so silently. The battery is located in front of the trigger guard, and the only functions are safe and fire. I'll freely admit to altering this one from the original text, as the book describes a reverse fuction on the magnets, allowing the user to pull darts out afterword, but I feel that is too unrealistic, even for 500 future-years.

OMG YOU GUYS EVEN MORE GUNS. Also knives and grenades:
This is also the official announcement of the Month of Weapons! My goal by the end of March is to have produced 10ish pieces of finished, industry-quality weapons concepts. The Nemex is the first of those.

Guns and also Dragons!
The gun is the Nemesis 10, which is Kovac's main weapon in Altered Carbon. I have drawn this pistol almost as may times as I drawn Kovacs. I need to put together an embarrassing retrospective at some point.
The dragon is Temeraire, in the process of being kitted out for patrol duty. I found a cool aerial shot of a C5-Galaxy cargo plane, and figured out that the plane is about 120 feet long, which is coincidentally the size of a heavyweight dragon.
